Serafin Fernandez, Senior Director, Capital Projects, was born in Tangancicuaro, Michoacan, Mexico and emigrated to the United States at the age of eight. In 2016, Serafin came onboard to manage the Measure H Bond’s Burbank Auditorium Renovation Project. He was appointed Interim Senior Director in April 2019 and served in that role while the District conducted an external search. In May 2020, Serafin was hired to fill this critical role. Serafin loves being part of the District and appreciates how quickly the SRJC community adopted him as a family member. Regarded as a thought leader in the field, Serafin has dedicated his professional career to the construction of educational facilities and finds building great teaching and learning environments for SRJC’s amazing faculty and students most satisfying. As a first generation college graduate, Serafin has a BS in Construction Engineering and Management from Purdue University. A member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Serafin has served two terms as National President.
